Resort finansów ogłosił wczoraj najnowsze szacunki wzrostu cen. Jego zdaniem w lutym inflacja skoczyła do 4,6 proc. (z 4,3 proc. w styczniu). Jeśli się nie pomylił, to luty byłby kolejnym miesiącem dynamicznego wzrostu inflacji.

Jeśli amerykański Bank Rezerwy Federalnej nadal będzie uzdrawiać gospodarkę tak jak to czynił dotąd, to już wkrótce można się spodziewać w Polsce dolara po złotówce. I kolejek Amerykanów przed polskimi konsulatami, starających się o wizy pracownicze. Wbrew pozorom nie jest to przesadne czarnowidztwo.

An index of executive and consumer sentiment in the euro area dropped to 101.7, the lowest since January 2006, from a revised 103.4 in December, the European Commission in Brussels said today. A separate report showed the inflation rate rose to 3.2 percent, the highest since December 1993.

The IMF has cut its forecast of global growth in 2008 twice in three months. In October it was predicting expansion of 4.8% this year to continue the longest period of sustained strong growth since the late 1960s and early 1970s, but that was trimmed to 4.4% after it was found that higher inflation over the past decade in emerging economies such as China and India meant growth had not been quite as fast as originally believed. It has now further cut its growth estimate to 4.1%.

The New York-based business research group said that its Consumer Confidence Index dropped to 87.9 in January from a revised 90.6 in December. That put it back to about where it was in November, when it registered 87.8. The January reading was just a tad below the 88 expected by Wall Street analysts, according to Thomson/IFR.

Miami led the way in plunging prices with a 15.1% year-on-year fall, followed by San Diego at 13.4%, Las Vegas at 13.2% and Detroit at 13%. Spanish banks are issuing mortgage securities and asset-backed bonds on a massive scale and use them as collateral to raise money at favourable rates from the official credit window at the European Central Bank.

The data appear to confirm suspicions that the EU authorities have carried out a covert rescue of the Spanish mortgage banking system.
